To keep your vehicle driving smoothly and safely, it’s crucial that your suspension is in healthy condition. At the first sign of a suspension problem, you’ll want to have the mechanic take a look. At Raptor Transmission, our technicians provide expert suspension repair in the greater Houston area.

Warning Signs of a Suspension Problem

Symptoms of suspension failure sometimes emerge during the braking process. A bad suspension can make it feel as if your vehicle is nose-diving when you hit the brakes. And a suspension issue can cause your car to take more time to arrive at a complete stop after you’ve begun braking.

If you hit little bumps and your car bounces wildly or makes a lot of noise, then you should get to the shop for an inspection. With a bad spring, you’re liable to hear clunking sounds when you drive over bumps. A damaged spring can also make your car sit lower in the affected corner.

By conducting a simple test, you can get a better sense of whether your suspension is in poor condition. First, make sure your car is safely parked. Then go to the front end, press down on it, rock it twice, and let go. Then go to the rear end and repeat this step. After releasing, your vehicle shouldn’t rock more than three times on its own. If it does rock more than this, then there’s reason to suspect that suspension trouble is brewing.

It’s good to be mindful of a few other symptoms of suspension trouble. For one, a faulty suspension can make it feel like your car is drifting when you take sharp turns. Also, suspension trouble can cause tire tread to wear down unevenly, leading to bald spots. And if your shocks have oil leaking out onto them, then replacement will probably be needed.
